WIN Rooms
WIN Rooms at New Beginnings
At New Beginnings, we believe every student deserves the tools and environment to succeed. Our WIN Rooms, “What I Need” Rooms, are designed to provide targeted support that meets the unique emotional, behavioral, sensory, and academic needs of our students. These spaces are thoughtfully created to offer the “just right” level of support and intervention so that each child can feel regulated, engaged, safe, and ready to learn.
How WIN Rooms Support Students
WIN Rooms are not simply a place to go when challenges arise, they are proactive, structured spaces built into a student’s day to promote success. Many students visit WIN Rooms based on known needs as part of their daily routine, allowing them to practice regulation, reduce stress, and maintain focus before behaviors escalate. When students do experience difficulties, WIN Rooms also serve as safe and supportive environments to work through those behaviors, learn coping strategies, and generalize these skills through various settings. Additionally, once success has been established within the WIN Room, staff work with students to bring those strategies back to the classroom to ensure consistency and continued progress.
Growing Through Support
WIN Rooms are also designed to give students the structure and support they need to work through behaviors in a safe and positive way. With guidance from trained staff, students practice calming strategies, use sensory tools, and take breaks that help them regulate their emotions and bodies. This process allows students to de-escalate, regain control, and return to the classroom better prepared to learn and engage. Over time, these experiences help students build the skills and confidence they need to manage challenges more independently.
What Students Experience in a WIN Room
Each WIN Room is equipped with sensory and self-regulation tools such as swings, weighted blankets, quiet corners, movement activities, and visual supports. These resources help students feel calm, safe, and in control. Special educators, therapists, and behavior specialists provide compassionate guidance and individualized coaching, ensuring that each student’s time in the WIN Room is purposeful and supportive. Depending on their needs, students may use the room for calming breaks, skill-building activities, or academic and therapeutic interventions.
